First up is a Horsing Around resin Shetland which I painted as a trade arrangement with my friend Celia. I wanted her Border Fine Arts Dales mare, she wanted fewer models and this resin painted – deal done! That was last year, and I was feeling a bit guilty about having left it so long, so the show provided the perfect catalyst for me to get on and finish the model.
Celia had sent me a photo with a rough idea of the pattern she wanted, and a verbal description of the colour. Here is Tobermoray as he ended up:
He’s now been posted off to Celia and I hope he meets with her approval.
The other two models were both for myself, and were ones which I had started at least five years ago – in fact nearer ten for one of them, I think. One was a brown Thoroughbred, and I must admit I am pretty pleased with how she turned out:
Incidentally the base was made (under much sufferance) by my dear friend Alf, whose tribulations you can read about here, if you wish. She did a lovely job as you can see.
The other model, a Shire, is pretty enough, but I do tend to struggle with rendering dappled grey, and feel I could have done better. However, judge for yourself:
To end with a challenge, I wonder who can be the first of my readers to identify both the Shire and the Thoroughbred models above? They are slightly unusual, and in particular I think may be unknown to my readership outside the UK. Drop me an e-mail or a comment if you think you know!
The shire is the OOOOOLD britains shire mare I think. I have one in its OF form. This is a rather substantial improvement on it.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, but I don't know about a 'substantial improvement' - all I've done is a new Milliput mane and tail, and repainted it.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know the TB then?
